Weekend Web 12

little doodles

Weekend Web is a weekend series where I list my favourite links from that week. This week I've been loving:

♥ Hair Maths by Cherry Healey - a quick, easy and cute way to wear your hair when you have little time.
♥ The Sun: Toni's Celebrity Style Challenge - The Sun's fashion editor dresses up as a different celeb every day. Surprisingly inspirational.
♥ http://nancystraughan.blogspot.com a talented fashion student; I love her illustrations and the different textiles she posts on her blog.
♥ Little Doodles - I genuinely can't get enough of Kate's little doodles. She's been featured in the Guardian, the New York Times and Topman, but I what I love is Kate's use of mixed media.
♥ Society6 iphone cases - Having just got an iphone, I'm looking for inspiring iphone cases. Society6 has over 800 cases to choose from, from animals to art to cartoons to typography, there really is something for everyone.
♥ Bookhou - Bookhou is a handmade textile company; the name a combination of the two designer's surnames. I really adore their simple prints and their canvas bags.

I love discovering new blogs, art and illustrations, so if you'd like to submit a link, leave it in the comments or tweet me. :)

Weekend Web 10

Weekend Web is my fortnightly round-up post on new websites I've discovered that inspire me during the week. I like to feature brands, lookbooks, illustrations, events, and generally anything that makes life easier for designers, customers or inspires people in their fashion and design. :)

The Scribbler

♥ http://blog.bettymagazine.co.uk - Betty Magazine has just released its second issue, which you can read online here. It is beautiful and whimsical, with great photography in the vein of Lula.
♥ http://cherryhumbug.net/2010/09/27/clowning-around/ - I love this photoshoot posted on Katie's blog, feat. Coco Rocha.
♥ http://yiunamleung.blogspot.com - Really interesting and creative fashion illustration with an edge.
♥ http://candicelake.com - Some of you may recognize Candice as a former model. Now she shoots for Vogue and Glamour magazine, amongst others, which is where I discovered her. She has an amazing eye for portrait photography.
♥ http://vicriches.blogspot.com/ - The Scribbler draws beautiful and creative fashion illustration, including illustrating the lovely book pictured above.
♥ http://pneumoniawhite.blogspot.com - pneumonia white is an enigmatic fashion and photography blog. She seems to be creating a buzz at the moment due to her anonymous identity and beautiful photos.

Weekend Web 9

Ayten Gasson lingerie

♥ http://www.aytengasson.com - This vintage-style lace lingerie is so beautiful. The lace used is sourced from Nottingham from the lace makers to Diana, Princess of Wales. Their autumn range is on sale atm for a really reasonable price.
♥ http://www.missmoss.co.za/2011/06/10/modcloth-miss-moss/ - This post really inspired me, it takes classical paintings and creates outfits inspired by them. You can see more on the Modcloth blog here.
♥ http://www.francescawaddell.com - beautiful and creative fashion illustrations, as featured in Stylist magazine.
♥ http://www.guiltfreefashion.co.uk - I love this site! It features DIY fashion which is easy and cheap to do which everyone can enjoy.
♥ http://www.lavishalice.com - I spotted this cute new brand over at Lara's blog and I wanted to feature them in this post because their shoes in particular are so cute.

Miss Moss & Modcloth

Hope you enjoy the links! This weekend we've been spending a lot of time in IKEA and visiting our parents to get furniture for our new place! I will be sure to post 'before' and 'after pictures when we've decorated. :)

Weekend Web 8

♥ http://www.etsy.com/people/jkldesign - Leigh makes amazing illustrations (above) and has had her designs signed by none other than Lady Gaga herself, which are being sold on Etsy to raise money for the Save the Music foundations for musical education in schools.
♥ http://www.buddug.com - If you live in London, check out the shop owned by two friends that sells beautiful vintage style accessories, stationary and enamel jewellery. (below)
♥ http://www.lauralaura.net - I love lauralaura's knitwear- her slogan jumpers look so cosy and cute.
♥ http://tahti.tumblr.com - I'm linking here because I think it is a great tumblr, and I love her style but, as Tahti has said herself, some of her photos have been used as thinspiration which she does not condone, and neither do I.
♥ http://www.neetmagazine.com - If you haven't heard of this magazine, where have you been? In my opinion its the definitive online blog magazine, and it's fantastic quality. In this issue lots of my favourite bloggers are featured, including Dirty Hems.

I hope you enjoyed these links, and have a great weekend everybody! ♥

♥ http://www.shopredvelvet.com - An online vintage store with a delightful lookbook, as seen above.

♥ http://www.neatorama.com/2011/04/27/cool-non-literary-uses-for-books - I couldn't get over this page. If you can't think of anything to do with your old books and you love crafts, this page is perfect for you. It's full of ideas from chairs to lamps to hiding your kindle inside an old book if you're passing dodgy neighborhoods! (see below)

In other news: I went to London for the weekend and spent most of my time in Camden market. I can't wait to share the photos I took of all the amazing graffiti art and sculptures, as well as my buys from the weekend. :)

Weekend Web 4

♥ http://pennychic.com - A US blog that only features clothes from Wal-mart. I'm so tempted to start one for Primark in the UK. Most of my clothes are from there anyway, it wouldn't be hard!
♥ https://www.betafashion.com - Beta is an online fashion project which runs competitions to find the best designers, and takes those prints and turns them into clothes. If I were a designer, illustrator or print designer I would love my designs to win a beta competition, it would be a great way to get your designs out there.
♥ http://www.modcloth.com/the-written-wardrobe - A writing project that I stumbled across by accident. Got a fashion related short story or poem? Submit it to modcloth and you could be featured.
♥ http://wikifashion.com - It is what it sounds like, its the online contributions-based encyclopedia for all things fashion related.
♥ katrinbragad.blogspot.com- Katrin is a young fashion photographer. Her photography is very colourful and the models are so strong, with a great sense of power!

Isn't the UK weather fab! I can't get over it. Let's hope it lasts. :) I can't decide whether summer makes us fat. On the one hand, we've got the possibility of bike rides, tennis, swimming and long walks, but the flip side of that is ice creams, eating out and barbecues! Either way I think I'll enjoy both sides of summer.
What are your favourite things to do in summer?

♥ http://www.theredballoonphotograhy.com/blog - Photography that cannot fail to make you smile. I love the lighting and the use of colour.
♥ http://www.etsy.com/shop/tabidesigns - I love these designs, and can't get enough of her tea illustrations. I seriously want one of her coin purses, they're so delicate!
♥ http://www.anjaschwerbrock.com - A German fashion designer. I love her designs, they make amazing use of draping, look sharp and stylish and also look so comfortable to wear! They also look like they would suit most sizes which is always a plus.
♥ http://www.fashionist.ca/2011/02/alexander-mcqueen-complete-runway-retrospective-1994-2010.html - Crash fashion history lesson in Alexander McQueen's runway shows. It's succinct and clear, and I learnt a lot.
♥ http://models.com/mdx/?p=7449 - This is such a heartwarming video. It's a collaberation between Models.com and Justin Wu, and features models lip-synching to 'Can't take my eyes off you'. The brighter side of modelling. :)

I hope you enjoyed these links, and have a little bit of inspiration for your weekend. The models' video really cheers you up when researching the darker side of modelling!

In other adventures: I'm so friggin' excited that I'm going to be moving out of my parent's house asap. I'm going to be house sitting my late grandma's house until the house sale goes through. I can't wait to have a nice, peaceful house where I can get to sleep before midnight. ♥

Weekend Web 1

I love slow weekends. I only get them once in a while, as all too often I'm pulling an all-nighter up against the clock for my dissertation, or getting a late train back from Sheffield. Unfortunately I live with my parents and little sister so a slow weekend isn't all bubble baths and baking cakes like I wish it could be. :) I usually spend it catching up on the internet. I've compiled a list of cute+fruitful finds on the internet that will hopefully make you smile and inspire you.

♥ Operation Beautiful- A project to inspire self-confidence and beauty in all you see. Write 'You're beautiful' on a post-it note, and leave it where someone will see it (a bathroom mirror, a park bench, a train station). I'm going to try this out next time I get the train to uni. Hopefully it will inspire the London commuters, they look like they need cheering up!
Disclaimer: does not require appreciation for James Blunt.
♥ Etsy: Alex Keller- a beautiful etsy shop selling affordable reconstructed vintage jewellery. I'm seriously coveting the wrap bracelet, I think I might crack and buy it.
♥ Miss Moss- Miss Moss manages to find the most amazing illustrations and photographs, but what amazes me most is the way she matches old vintage photos with 'old master' paintings. Click here to see what I mean. Stunning.
♥ What Elle Wears- Elle fortnightly photographs what their staff wear to work. I love this blog because most of the women have such a distinctive style, but one they've grown into and finally wear as their own. I particularly love Carrie Gorman's (the UK web editor) style.
♥ My Milk Toof- The illustrated adventures of two baby milk teeth. Hilariously cute.

In other adventures: ^This is what my family & I looked like yesterday.^ We heard the sound of water gushing, followed the noise and found it coming from the floorboards. We called the emergency plumper and was told he'd come at 3am. In the night. So we spent the evening huddling in blankets with 1 electric heater between us and my hot water bottle bear. But it's all fixed now! I love a warm house<3
